After he read Classics at KULeuven and defended his PhD in 1993 (under supervision of Jozef IJsewijn), Michiel Verweij was active in various projects, in Leuven, Louvain-la-Neuve, Rome and Nijmegen (Netherlands). Since 7 June 2004, he is a curator at the manuscripts’ department of the Royal Library of Belgium. In 2002, 2003-04 and again in 2010 he was a guest professor at the KULeuven (Latin grammar, History of Latin literature in the Middle Ages, Latin literature: interpretation of post-classical authors).
His current research concerns Neo-Latin school drama, the Cranevelt correspondence (385 autograph letters from the 1520s), the correspondence of Erasmus, Pope Adrian VI and his Leuven circle of collaborators, the last pontifical singer and composer from the Low Countries, Christiaan van der Ameijden (ca. 1530-1605), the manuscript transmission of the Summa de virtutibus by Guillelmus Peraldus (fl. 1250), manuscripts of Latin clasical authors in the collection of the Royal Library of Belgium, humanist correspondence kept in the Royal Library of Belgium, manuscripts from the library of the Dukes of Burgundy.
